Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that Basant 2027 will be celebrated in Lahore from March 12 to 14. She made the announcement herself on her X account.
Following the success of Basant 2026, Maryam Nawaz said Lahore will once again become a hub of “colour, culture, festivity, music, energy and legendary hospitality.”
A Special Invitation to Youth
In her message, Maryam Nawaz specifically invited young people from across Punjab and Pakistan to take part. “This celebration is for you come together, create memories, and light up Lahore with your energy and spirit,” she said.
She also asked overseas Pakistanis and international guests to save March 12, 13 and 14 on their calendars.
How Did Last Year’s Basant Go?
Before Basant 2026, kite-flying had been banned in Lahore for 21 years the ban dated back to 2007, following a string of deaths linked to chemical-coated kite strings and celebratory gunfire. This year, the Punjab government temporarily suspended the ban through an ordinance and held a three-day festival under strict regulations.
Reports at the time said roughly two million people used the free transport service laid on for the festival, while Lahore’s roads and streets were lit up and rooftop gatherings ran late into the night.
What to Expect This Time
Maryam Nawaz confirmed Basant 2027 will again feature music, cultural activities and entertainment events. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has already said the next edition will be even livelier than the last.
