The completion date for the Kutchery Chowk redevelopment in Rawalpindi has been pushed from April 30 to the end of May after the project cost increased from Rs 14 billion to Rs 19 billion. Authorities stated that while the main structures are complete, finishing touches, lighting, and drainage work are still pending.
A senior official from the Punjab Communication and Works Department told that the original April 30 deadline was first postponed to mid-May due to unfinished components of the project. The official confirmed that two flyovers and three underpasses have been constructed, and roadwork has been largely completed, but aesthetic work, lighting, and drainage remain underway.
The official cited heavy rains in March and the Eid holidays as primary reasons for the delay. He added that construction is ongoing in full swing, noting that work typically resumes three days after rainfall. Frontier Works Organization (FWO), the contractor, is reportedly working in double shifts to meet the new deadline, though weather conditions have not been favorable.
